Focus Features announced today that the Last Night in Soho release date has been moved back from September 25, 2020 to Friday, April 23, 2021. Focus has also revealed a new photo from the film which you can view in full below.
Director Edgar Wright tweeted about the change and said: “Haunted by someone else’s past, but we’ll see you in the future… It’s true, #LastNightInSoho is not quite finished yet due to Covid 19. But, I’m excited for you all to experience it, at a big screen near you, on April 23, 2021.”
The London-set psychological thriller stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Emma), Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Jo Jo Rabbit), Matt Smith (The Crown), Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham.
Edgar Wright and Penny Dreadful scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns co-wrote the screenplay, produced by Nira Park, Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Wright. Focus Features and Film4 co-financed the film.
Citing Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion as influences, Edgar Wright previously said the film “is about the London I’ve existed in.” He added: “I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in.”
Edgar Wright’s last film, Baby Driver (buy at Amazon), was a runaway success in 2017 with $226.9 million earned on a budget of just $34 million.
Focus Features will release Last Night in Soho in North American theaters, while Universal Pictures International distributes overseas.
