Peacock announced today that two-time Emmy Award-nominee Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant, The Big Bang Theory) will star in the leading role of the dark comedic thriller Based on a True Story.
The series comes from Emmy Award-nominated Craig Rosenberg (The Boys, Lost, Preacher).
Peacock says that Cuoco will play a married woman named Ava Bartlett, but all other character details about the show are being kept under wraps.
A dark comedic thriller inspired by a bizarre true event, Based on a True Story is about a realtor, a plumber, and a former tennis star whose lives unexpectedly collide, exposing America’s obsession with true crime, murder, and the slow-close toilet seat.
Rosenberg will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Jason Bateman (Ozark, The Outsider) will executive produce alongside Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films.
Roxie Rodriguez serves as co-executive producer for Aggregate Films. The series will be produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Kaley Cuoco was nominated for an Emmy award again this year (for the second year in a row) for her performance in The Flight Attendant in the category Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She is currently shooting the action-thriller Role Play.
The second season of The Flight Attendant debuted on HBO Max on April 21. In the critically acclaimed series, Cassie Bowden (Kaley Cuoco) is living her best sober life in Los Angeles while moonlighting as a CIA asset in her spare time.
But when an overseas assignment leads her to witness a murder inadvertently, she becomes entangled in another international intrigue.
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Cuoco’s Yes, Norman Productions, and Berlanti Productions. Season one of the series was based on the novel of the same name (See on Amazon) by New York Times bestselling author Chris Bohjalian.
Role Play, meanwhile, is an upcoming action thriller directed by Thomas Vincent from a script by Seth Owen. Cuoco co-stars with David Oyelowo, Bill Nighy, and Connie Nielsen. The movie centers on a married couple (Cuoco and Oyelowo) whose lives are turned upside down when secrets about each other’s pasts come out.
The Picture Company partners Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona are producing through their deal at STUDIOCANAL. Cuoco is producing through her Yes, Norman Productions.
