Julie Andrews to Voice Role in Shondaland’s Untitled Bridgerton Project

Julie Andrews (Mary PoppinsThe Sound of Music) has been cast in Shondaland‘s Untitled Bridgerton Project from Netflix. Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, this smart feminist take on Regency England romance unveils the glittering, wealthy, sexual, painful, funny and sometimes lonely lives of the women and men in London’s high society marriage mart as told through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family. Scandal veteran Chris Van Dusen (EP) will adapt and showrun the series.

The Untitled Bridgerton Project is an hourlong series in which Andrews will voice the role of Lady Whistledown. There will be eight episodes in the series, which will premiere in 2020 on the streaming service.

Here is the Amazon description of the first book in the series, “The Duke and I”: “Can there be any greater challenge to London’s Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke?—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1813

“By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend’s sister—the lovely and almost-on-the-shelf—Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth—it’s all an elaborate ruse to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.

“But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it’s hard to remember that their courtship is a sham. Maybe it’s his devilish smile, certainly it’s the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her . . . but somehow Daphne is falling for the dashing duke . . . for real! And now she must do the impossible and convince the handsome rogue that their clever little scheme deserves a slight alteration, and that nothing makes quite as much sense as falling in love.”

Julie Andrews is known for her iconic roles in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, as well as The Princess Diaries. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Victor/Victoria, and recently voiced Kharaten in the Warner Bros. and DC film Aquaman.
