Josh Brolin to Play a Rancher in Amazon’s Outer Range


AvengersDeadpool 2, and No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin has signed on to play the lead role in Amazon Studios and Plan B’s Outer Range, according to Variety.

The thriller series was announced in January as part of an overall deal for television between Amazon Studios and the Academy and Emmy Award-winning team at Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

Under the deal, Plan B will develop and produce series to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Outer Range centers on a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. Brolin will play the rancher, named Royal Abbott.

Outer Range is from creator and executive producer Brian Watkins. Brolin will also executive produce with Zev Borow, Heather Rae, and Plan B Entertainment.

Brolin will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation, scheduled for released on December 18, 2020. The actor also has an untitled project set up at Hulu which he’s write, executive produce and star in.

The Amazon Studios and Plan B deal also includes Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins‘ upcoming series The Underground Railroad. Plan B is also working with Amazon Studios, along with Legendary Television, to develop Paper Girls, a dramatic series based on Brian K. Vaughan’s best-selling graphic novel.

Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) will direct all episodes of the Amazon Original series The Underground Railroad. Based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning and bestselling novel The Underground Railroad, which also won the National Book Award and was an Oprah Winfrey Book Club pick, the series is executive produced by Jenkins’ PASTEL and Plan B Entertainment.
