Following its debut at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed the official trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux. The film will open in theaters on October 4, 2024.
Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he wrote with Scott Silver, the film is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Joker. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the DC Comics character and is joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz also returns as Sophie Dumond.
The cast also includes Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. Principal photography for Joker: Folie à Deux took place in Los Angeles, New York City, and Belleville, New Jersey, from December 2022 to April 2023.
Joker: Folie à Deux received an R rating by the MPA for some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.
Also rated R, the first film opened in 2019 and was a huge success at the box office, grossing $1.078 billion worldwide. The film earned $335.4 million at North American theaters and $743.4 million in international markets.
At the 92nd Academy Awards, Joker won the Best Actor (Phoenix) and Best Original Score (Hildur Guðnadóttir, who returns for the sequel) awards. It received eleven nominations (including Best Picture), breaking the previous record of eight held by The Dark Knight for the most nominations received by a film based on a comic book.
