Jessica Alba to Star in Netflix Action Thriller Trigger Warning

Netflix announced today that Jessica Alba has signed on to star in the action thriller Trigger Warning, to be directed by Mouly Surya. Alba will executive produce the film as well.

In Trigger Warning, a traumatized veteran inherits her grandfather’s bar after his untimely death. She is faced with a moral dilemma as she discovers the truth behind his death.

Mouly’s previous film, Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts, premiered as an official Directors’ Fortnight selection at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. It was Indonesia’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.

Trigger Warning was written by Josh Olson and John Brancato. The producers include Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.

The deal comes after the success of Netflix’s action thriller Extraction, directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth. Produced by the Russo brothers (and written by Joe Russo), the movie will be getting a sequel on the streaming service.

Alba, whose past credits include James Cameron’s Dark Angel, Sin City, and Fantastic Four, currently stars and executive produces Spectrum Original’s L.A.’s Finest alongside Gabrielle Union. The series, an action-packed spinoff from Jerry Bruckheimer’s Bad Boys universe, will return for its second season this June. The first season will also air on FOX this fall.

Alba also recently announced the Disney+ documentary series Parenting Without Borders, which she will host and executive produce. Based on the book of the same name (buy at Amazon), the travel series will follow Alba as she immerses herself with families around the world, exploring the parenting beliefs and practices shaping families today.

Along with her work in film and television, Alba is the globally recognized business leader and entrepreneur behind The Honest Company and Honest Beauty, the mission-driven consumer products company she founded in 2012.

In case you haven’t watched L.A.’s Finest, the series follows Syd Burnett (Gabrielle Union), last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, who has seemingly left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective. Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba), a working mom with an equally complex history, Syd is forced to confront how her unapologetic lifestyle may be masking a greater personal secret.

Taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles while skirting the rules, and speed limits, Syd and Nancy become a force to be reckoned with – on the streets, and in each other’s lives.

The additional cast members include Ernie Hudson as Joseph Burnett, Zack Gilford and Duane Martin as Ben Walker and Ben Baines, and Ryan McPartlin as Patrick McKenna.

From Executive Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the Sony Pictures Television series is executive produced and written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Pam Veasey is executive producer and co-showrunner. The series is based upon the character Syd Burnett, originally created for Bad Boys II by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley and Ron Shelton.
