Jermaine Fowler Cast in Coming 2 America

Jermaine Fowler (Superior DonutsBoJack Horseman) has joined the cast of Coming 2 America, according to Variety. There is no word yet on who Fowler is playing in the Paramount Pictures film, but we’ll keep you updated as news breaks. Coming 2 America is the sequel to the 1988 comedy Coming to America starring Eddie Murphy.

Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) will direct the film. In the sequel, Murphy’s Prince Akeem learns about a long lost son and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.

Kenya Barris is rewriting a script by original Coming to America writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield. Murphy is producing with Kevin Misher and Barris is executive producing.

In the original film, directed by John Landis, a very wealthy and pampered African prince comes to America in search of a bride. Accompanied by his closest companion (Arsenio Hall), Murphy’s Prince Akeem quickly finds a job, new friends, new digs, new enemies and lots of trouble.

The movie also starred James Earl Jones, John Amos, Madge Sinclair, and Shari Headley. It grossed $288.8 million at the worldwide box office.

Brewer just directed Murphy in the upcoming Netflix film, Dolemite Is My Name.
