Jason Scott Lee has joined the cast of Disney‘s live-action Mulan movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lee, whose credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, The Jungle Book, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, and Lilo & Stitch, will play Bori Khan, a warrior leader who is intent on avenging his father’s death.
The trade adds that Khan will join Gong Li on the antagonists’ side, while the heroine’s (Liu Yifei) team includes Donnie Yen, Yoson An and Ron Yuan. Jet Li, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Xana Tang, and Chum Ehelepola round out the cast.
The 1998 animated film is described as follows: “Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) takes his spot — though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.”
Niki Caro is directing the March 27, 2020 release, produced by Chris Bender, Jason Reed, and Jake Weiner, and executive produced by William Kong and Barrie M. Osborne.
