Jason Bateman to Direct Ryan Reynolds in New Clue Movie

After winning an Emmy on Sunday for directing the “Reparations” episode of Ozark, Jason Bateman is now in early talks to direct Ryan Reynolds in the new Clue movie, according to Deadline. The adaptation of the Hasbro board game is currently in development at Disney’s 20th Century Fox.

The site says that Bateman also plans to star in the film, but that’s not confirmed yet. Bateman will develop the Clue movie script with Reynolds, who is producing through his Maximum Effort production company, along with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.

It was announced back in January 2018 that Reynolds had signed a three-year producing deal with 20th Century Fox after the success of the two Deadpool movies, and Clue would be the first project. When the announcement was made, Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were attached to write the script.

Bateman began production today on Netflix’s Ozark Season 3 and will direct two episodes. He is also directing two episodes of The Outsider for HBO.

Reynolds has numerous projects coming up, including 6 UndergroundThe Hitman’s Wife’s BodyguardFree GuyThe Croods 2, and Red Notice.

Clue was previously turned into a 1985 mystery comedy starring Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren. The film, which had multiple endings, was directed by Jonathan Lynn from a story by Lynn and John Landis.
