Jai Courtney Says Captain Boomerang Will Return for The Suicide Squad

-

Actor Jai Courtney has revealed to Business Insider that his character from the first Suicide Squad movie, Captain Boomerang, will return for the upcoming James Gunn film.

“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time,” Courtney said. “There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.” He added that he’s “happy, it’s going to be fun. It will be different, for sure, but it’s going to be great.”

It’s still unclear who else will be back from the first movie. Idris Elba is replacing Will Smith in the role of Deadshot. Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, is currently filming the Birds of Prey spinoff but is not confirmed to be back yet for The Suicide Squad.

It was previously reported that Warner Bros. was not looking at making a direct sequel but more of a relaunch. Gunn is said to be taking the franchise in a new direction with mostly an all-new cast of characters and actors.

With a release date set for August 6, 2021, Warner Bros. Pictures is hoping to start production this fall. Charles Roven and Peter Safran will produce the feature. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder will serve as executive producers.

Directed by David Ayer, the first Suicide Squad also stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Joel Kinnaman, and Jared Leto. Suicide Squad cost about $175 million and grossed an impressive $746.8 million worldwide.
