Chandor’s feature film credits include Margin Call (2011), All Is Lost (2013), A Most Violent Year (2014), and Triple Frontier (2019).
Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad will produce the Kraven the Hunter movie. The script is being written by Richard Wenk, who wrote The Equalizer for Sony.
In the comics, Kraven was a maniacal big game hunter who sought to defeat Spider-Man to prove that he was the greatest hunter in the world. Unlike other hunters, he typically disdained the use of guns or bow and arrows preferring to take down large dangerous animals with his bare hands even though he often made elaborate preparations to weaken a quarry before hand.
He also used a mystical serum to give him similar strength to Spider-Man, but even without the serum he was a threat to the wall-crawler. However, Kraven’s continual underestimation of the superhero’s resourcefulness made him a frustrating quarry.
In addition to Spider-Woman, numerous other movies are in development for Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel Characters. Also in the works at Sony are a Madame Webb movie, to be directed by S.J. Clarkson, a Jackpot movie written by Marc Guggenheim, as well as Black Cat and Silver Sable films.
Sony’s previous Universe of Marvel Characters movie is Venom, starring Tom Hardy. Coming to theaters on March 19, 2021 is Morbius, starring Jared Leto, while the sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage is scheduled to open on June 25, 2021.
The studio has also had great success with the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has a sequel coming to theaters on October 7, 2022.
Sony Pictures has previously worked with Marvel Studios on Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). Their third Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spidey will debut on December 17, 2021.
Spider-Man will also appear in a future Marvel Studios film. Pascal is set to produce the third Spider-Man movie through Pascal Pictures, as she has on the first two Holland-led films.
