Golden Globe winner Idris Elba (upcoming The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Beasts of No Nation) has joined Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, The Last Black Man in San Francisco) in Netflix film The Harder They Fall, which will mark the directorial debut of Jeymes Samuel. Samuel, also known as The Bullitts, is a singer-songwriter, producer and director. He wrote the script for The Harder They Fall with Boaz Yakin.
The all-black Western is the story of when outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that the man (Idris Elba) who killed his parents two decades ago is being released from prison, he reunites with his gang to track his enemy down and seek his revenge.
The film’s producers are Jay-Z, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender, and Samuel. Samuel previously collaborated with Jay-Z on The Great Gatsby soundtrack and will re-team with Jay-Z to write and produce original music for this film as well.
Idris Elba’s credits include series The Wire and Luther. On the big screen, he’s appeared in such films as American Gangster, Beasts of No Nation, The Jungle Book, Molly’s Game, and Prometheus. He is also well known for playing Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jonathan Majors made his screen debut in February 2017 starring in the ABC miniseries When We Rise. The actor recently finished production on Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods in southeast Asia. Majors also recently wrapped production on Max Winkler’s Jungleland, which is set to be released later this year. His credits also include HBO’s upcoming Lovecraft Country, White Boy Rick, Hostiles and Captive State.
