Hulu Reveals the Normal People Adaptation Coming in the Spring

Hulu today is giving a first look at the drama series Normal People, based on Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel. The 12-episode, half-hour drama series will premiere in the spring.

Normal People is an exquisite, modern love story about how one person can unexpectedly change another person’s life and about how complicated intimacy can be. It follows Marianne and Connell over several years, as they embark on an on-again/off-again romance that starts at school and continues through college, both testing their relationship as they explore different versions of themselves.

Normal People will be available on Hulu in the United States and on BBC Three in the United Kingdom.

The series stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (War of the Worlds, Cold Feet) as Marianne, and Paul Mescal, in his first television role, as Connell. Lenny Abrahamson (Room, The Little Stranger, Frank) and Hettie McDonald direct the series, with Abrahamson directing the first six and McDonald directing the final six. Sally Rooney is adapting alongside writers Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe.

Normal People is an Element Pictures production for Hulu and BBC Three. The series is executive produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Emma Norton, and Anna Ferguson for Element Pictures. Sally Rooney and Lenny Abrahamson will also serve as executive producers. Endeavour Content will serve as the international distributor.
