His Dark Materials Trailer from the San Diego Comic-Con!

-

Following the TV show’s panel at the San Diego Comic-ConHBO has brought online the new His Dark Materials trailer, which previews the series coming to both the BBC and HBO. The first season consists of eight episodes and a second, eight-episode season has also been ordered already.

The series is an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s acclaimed trilogy His Dark Materials, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction. His Dark Materials follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Lyra’s search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will. Together they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living – and the dead – in their hands.

The His Dark Materials series stars James McAvoy (Split) as Lord Asriel, Dafne Keen (Logan) as the main character Lyra, Ruth Wilson (Locke) as Marisa Coulter, and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) as Lee Scoresby. The show is written by Jack Thorne and the first two episodes will be directed by Tom Hooper.

When the glamorous and mesmeric Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) enters Lyra’s life, she embarks upon a dangerous journey of discovery from Oxford to London. Here she meets Father MacPhail (Will Keen), Lord Boreal (Ariyon Bakare) and journalist Adele Starminster (Georgina Campbell) at a glittering society party where she first hears about the sinister General Oblation Board.

Lyra is subsequently thrown into the nomadic world of the boat dwelling Gyptians – Ma Costa (Anne-Marie Duff), Farder Coram (James Cosmo), John Faa (Lucien Msamati), Raymond Van Geritt (Mat Fraser), Jack Verhoeven (Geoff Bell) and Benjamin de Ruyter (Simon Manyonda) who take her North in her quest.

Once in the North she meets charismatic aeronaut and adventurer Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda), who joins them on their epic journey and who becomes one of Lyra’s closest allies.

His Dark Materials is produced by Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema for BBC One in association with BBC Studios Distribution and Anton Capital Entertainment, S.C.A.

His Dark Materials is one of the supreme works of imaginative fiction for both children and adults published in the 20th century. After series one, which covers the first installment of Northern Lights, the story continues in The Subtle Knife where Lyra is joined on her journey by Will, a boy who possesses a knife that can cut windows between worlds. As Lyra learns the truth about her parents and her prophesied destiny, the two young people are caught up in a war against celestial powers that ranges across many worlds and leads to a thrilling conclusion in The Amber Spyglass.

His Dark Materials has been published in more than 40 languages and has sold worldwide close to 18 million copies.
