Attendees of Maestro of the Movies at the Hollywood Bowl last night got a big surprise when the legendary John Williams revealed Helena’s theme from the next Indiana Jones! You can watch a recording of the Helena’s theme performance below.
Helena is played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, No Time to Die, Killing Eve) in the June 30, 2023 release. Before playing the music, Williams described the character as “an adventurist, and she’s also a femme fatale. She’s many, many things, and her music has kind of lyrical music like an old movie star, which she looks like, but she’s young and beautiful and wonderful.”
After the video came online, director James Mangold tweeted: “This man is so gifted, charming & in love w/ making his art, even at 90.
“Astonishing to consider the worldwide impact of John’s music & his ability to tune modern ears into the passion & purity of an orchestra. It’s a euphoric honor to collaborate w/ him.”
At the event, Williams said that while the composer and Mangold were scoring the music for the movie last week, the filmmaker told Williams to play it at the Hollywood Bowl.
Williams reminded Mangold that the movie doesn’t come out until next year, but Mangold told him it doesn’t matter and to play it anyway.
It’s rare for a selection of music from a movie almost ten months out to be released this early, so this is definitely a treat for music and movie fans.
John Williams scored all four previous Indiana Jones movies, and it’s quite thrilling he returned for the next one.
Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this fifth installment of the iconic franchise.
Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, and Toby Jones.
The film is directed by James Mangold, with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel serving as producers, and Steven Spielberg as executive producer.
When the cast and crew of the new Indiana Jones movie were announced, Mangold said: “I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers. Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine.”
He continued: “When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
