The Indiana Jones 5 production is beginning earlier than we thought! In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, which you can watch using the player below, The Call of the Wild star Harrison Ford revealed that filming should start in about two months.
When asked what the challenge is for Ford to come back to roles years later. “Trying to not look silly,” the Star Wars actor says. “You know, running around in tight pants and high boots. I’ll give you a more appropriate answer considering that I’m gonna start doing Indiana Jones in about two months.”
“I’m always delighted to come back to these characters,” he added. “You know, when we have the opportunity to make another it’s because people have enjoyed them. I feel obliged to make sure that our efforts are as ambitious as they were when we started. You have a sense of responsibility to your customers.”
He said that he thinks “of the people that go to my movies more as customers than I do as fans. Fans feels kind of weird to me, but always has. But the fact that these people support my business and I’m responsible to them for the quality of the service that I offer, that feels better to me.”
Earlier this month, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was also asked about the status of Indiana Jones 5. “We are working away and getting the script where we want it to be and then we’ll be ready to go,” she said.
Asked whether it will be a reboot and if Harrison Ford will be involved, Kennedy added: “Harrison Ford will be involved. It’s not a reboot… a continuation.” She said that Ford can’t wait to do the film.
It was previously announced that the release date for the fifth installment had been set by The Walt Disney Studios for July 9, 2021. Steven Spielberg is set to direct from a script by David Koepp.
Steven Spielberg has said that he expects it to be Harrison Ford’s last turn as Indiana Jones, but he thinks the franchise will continue beyond the fifth installment as well.
Ford has played Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr. in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull grossed $790.7 million worldwide, with $317.1 million from North American theaters and $473.5 from overseas markets.
