Happy Death Day 2U Set for a Valentine's Day 2019 Release

Universal Pictures has set a February 14, 2019 release date for the sequel Happy Death Day 2U, from Blumhouse Productions. That puts the film up against X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Isn’t It Romantic on that date.

Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, and Ruby Modine will reprise their roles from the first film, which grossed $122.6 million worldwide in 2017 on a budget of just $4.8 million.

Happy Death Day centers on college student Tree Gelbman (Rothe) who slips into a horrific time loop as she relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity. In Happy Death Day 2U, Tree discovers that dying over and over again was easier than the dangers in her future.

Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi, Homeland) is joining the sequel as Samar Ghosh, a science enthusiast and geek who enjoys coding in his spare time. Sarah Yarkin (American Horror Story, The Middle) will play Dre Morgan, a science geek and tomboy with a sleepy feline gaze who is Samar’s partner-in-crime.

Christopher Landon is returning to write and direct the sequel. Jason Blum will once again produce. Angela Mancuso, John Baldecchi, and Samson Mucke are the executive producers.
