Greenland Sequel Acquired by STXfilms

Anton and STXfilms, a division of Eros STX Global Corporation, announced today that Anton has sold global rights to STXfilms for the disaster action sequel Greenland: Migration.

Gerard Butler (Has Fallen franchise, Den of Thieves) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Homeland) will reprise their roles as John and Allison Garrity.

Returning to direct Greenland: Migration is Ric Roman Waugh (Shot Caller, Angel Has Fallen), who will continue his long time collaboration with Butler following the success of the first film and the Has Fallen franchise.

Anton, who is fully financing the film, oversaw the international deal and co-repped the US rights with CAA Media Finance at the Virtual Cannes Market.

The new film will be produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk (John Wick, Sicario franchises) and Brendon Boyea, G-BASE’s Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel, and Anton’s Sebastien Raybaud and John Zois.

Greenland (watch or buy via Amazon) was a commercial and critical hit for STXfilms and its partners worldwide.

The harrowing adventure of the Garrity family and their epic fight to survive a near extinction level event opened #1 in 29 international markets.

The film grossed $53.5 million theatrically overseas, one of the strongest performances for a title released globally during that time. Domestically, the film was sold to HBO Max and was also a long-running PVOD success.

Greenland: Migration, which will start production in 2022, will continue the story of the Garrity family as they leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.

The new film will mark another reunion for STX and their frequent collaborators Butler, Waugh and the teams at Anton and Thunder Road.

After successfully distributing Greenland, STX recently wrapped principal photography on Waugh’s National Champions, which is also produced by Iwanyk and Thunder Road. The studio is also distributing Thunder Road and 30WEST’s Violence of Action in the US, UK and India.

Sebastien Raybaud, Anton’s CEO, said: “STX and their partners did an incredible job of launching the film worldwide last year and we are thrilled the sequel will return “home” for the exciting next chapter of this must-see adventure.”

“Gerry, Morena, Ric, Basil and Alan were fantastic partners on the first film and we look forward to building on the success and momentum as we work together with Anton to deliver another effects based spectacle driven by great characters and performances,” said Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STX’s Motion Picture Group.

He added: “What comes next for the Garrity Family is even more thrilling.”
