Grease Prequel Summer Loving in the Works at Paramount

Paramount Pictures division Paramount Players is developing a Grease prequel titled Summer Loving, according to The Hollywood Reporter. John August, whose credits include Big FishCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the upcoming Aladdin and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, will write the script.

The trade says that Temple Hill (Love, Simon, Maze Runner films, First Man) is producing with Picturestart.

In the 1978 movie, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) sing the song “Summer Nights,” in which they recount a summer fling they had in their own respective ways to the T-Birds and The Pink Ladies. Zuko brags to his friends about the physical aspects of the relationship, while Sandy sings about her emotional attachment to Danny. Outside of the movie, the song also became a big hit in the United States and United Kingdom during the summer of 1978.

Summer Loving is expected to center on the events they sing about in the song. You can check out the full song in the player below.

FOX and Paramount Television also broadcast Grease: Live! on January 31, 2016. In the musical, Sandy was played by Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit played Danny. You can check out the live version below.
