The First Godzilla: King of the Monsters Photos are Here!

Just yesterday, we learned more about Vera Farmiga’s character in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, opening in theaters on May 31, 2019, and now the first photos have also arrived online via Entertainment Weekly. You can check out the King of the Monsters photos below!

“The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting,” said director Michael Dougherty (Krampus), “but there’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”

We know he’s not, as he will be facing Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah in the anticipated sequel. “Rodan’s been kind of a sidekick character, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him,” added Dougherty. “In a lot of ways he’s more powerful than Godzilla. He’s like this winged A-bomb. I think we’ve done him justice.”

Farmiga is playinig Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga), a scientist working for Monarch, and her daughter Madison is played by Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown. The pair are kidnapped by what Dougherty describes as “a mysterious organization, with their own plans for the creatures.” Kyle Chandler is Mark Russell, Emma’s ex-husband and Madison’s father, who embarks on a rescue mission with two Monarch members, played by Godzilla stars Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins.

The film’s cast also includes is Bradley Whitford (Get Out); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s Silicon Valley); Charles Dance (HBO’s Game of Thrones); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton); Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness); and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi (Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

Michael Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The Warner Bros. release is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary.
