Disney and Pixar today are taking you behind the scenes of Onward, opening in theaters on March 6, 2020. In the video, you’ll get to see Tom Holland and Chris Pratt recording their roles, and it also features Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer talking about their roles.
Underneath the featurette, you can also check out a new TV spot for the film.
In the film, when teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, they embark on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere.
Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them.
Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.
Onward is inspired by director Dan Scanlon’s personal experiences with his brother. The film is produced by Kori Rae. Scanlon and Rae are the team behind Monsters University.
Onward is one of two films coming from Pixar in 2020. The other is Soul, directed by two-time Academy Award winner Pete Docter, co-directed by Kemp Powers and produced by Academy Award nominee Dana Murray.
In the June 19 release, just when Joe (Jamie Foxx) l thinks his dream might be in reach, a single unexpected step sends him to a fantastical place where he’s is forced to think again about what it truly means to have soul. That’s where he meets and ultimately teams up with 22 (Tina Fey), a soul who doesn’t think life on Earth is all it’s cracked up to be.
