Gina Rodriguez (Someone Great, Miss Bala, Jane the Virgin) is set to star in the movie Awake, Netflix announced today.
In the film, after a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos quickly begins to consume the world. Only Jill, an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter. The question is, can Jill safely deliver her daughter and save the world before she herself loses her mind.
Mark Raso (Kodachrome) is set to direct Awake from a script he and his brother Joseph wrote. Greg Poirier also worked on the script. Raso most recently directed the Ed Harris-starring Kodachrome, which sold to Netflix at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, and his film Copenhagen won Slamdance in 2014.
The Awake producer is Paul Schiff and the executive producers include Mark Gordon, Josh Phillips, Matt Jackson, Greg Poirier, Mark Raso, Joseph Raso, Gina Rodriguez, and Whitney Brown. The co-executive producer is Joanne Lee.
Rodriguez is providing her voice for such series as Carmen Sandiego, Elena of Avalor, and Big Mouth. Her upcoming projects include Warner Bros. Pictures’ new Scooby-Doo movie.
