Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Scream is executive produced by Kevin Williamson, Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena.
Written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, the film’s producers are William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt.
Scream is presented by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. The film is a Project X Entertainment Production and a Radio Silence film.
Williamson, who created the franchise, previously talked about the movie: “Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again.”
He added: “I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart.”
The new movie was filmed in Wilmington, North Caroline under the direction of Ready or Not filmmaking group Radio Silence (aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.)
“We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true,” Radio Silence said previously. “It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”
Campbell added: “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream’ franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”
Radio Silence previously commented on the return of Courteney Cox as well: “We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”
The Scream movies have grossed over $608 million worldwide. The first film was released in December of 1996 and was followed by Scream 2 in December of 1997.
The third movie came to theaters in February of 2000 and was expected to be the last installment. Eleven years later, Scream 4 was released to theaters in April of 2011.
