George Miller, director of the hit adventure film Mad Max: Fury Road, is set to pick up a new film. According to Deadline, Miller will take the helm on the upcoming picture Three Thousand Years of Longing, aka Djinn. The film will go on sale at AFM next week.
Miller wrote the script for Three Thousand Years of Longing, which is an original film. The site reports that this is different from Miller’s usual fare and is “epic in scope.” Three Thousand Years of Longing is set to begin production next year.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton will star in the film, which is described as a love story involving a genie.
The film will be produced with Miller’s regular collaborator Doug Mitchell. FilmNation will be on board to handle international sales and will likely rep the film for AFM.
George Miller is known for his work on films like The Witches of Eastwick, Lorenzo’s Oil, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Babe, Happy Feet, and of course, the critical success Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult. The film won six Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. Miller has been rumored for a sequel to a film, but there has been no word on that for some time.
