Gemma Chan Joins The Eternals for Second MCU Role

-

Gemma Chan, who previously played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel (see photo below), has just landed her second Marvel Cinematic Universe role, according to Variety. The Crazy Rich Asians star is in talks to join Marvel Studios’ The Eternals in what sounds like a completely different role.

Collider is also reporting that ChernobylDunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer actor Barry Keoghan has joined the cast as well in an unknown role.

Chan and Keoghan are joining a cast that includes Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Gemma Chan’s credits also include Mary Queen of ScotsHumansTransformers: The Last KnightFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Created by Jack Kirby, the Eternals first appeared in The Eternals #1 (July 1976). The Eternals were created by the Celestials, who did experiments on human beings millions of years ago. They also created the Deviants, who, as the name suggests, are the villains of the story. The Eternals and the Deviants have battled each other throughout history. The Eternals can breed with humans and are like them in appearance.

To be directed by Chloé Zhao (The RiderSongs My Brothers Taught Me) and produced by Kevin Feige, The Eternals is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2020. The script was written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
