Gal Gadot on Cleopatra and Wonder Woman 3

Gal Gadot is a busy woman, playing powerful characters including Wonder Woman in two Warner Bros. films with a third one on the way. Next she’s taking on an historical figure whose sexuality is often focused on rather than her brilliance. Gadot spoke to In Style and gave us a glimpse of what’s coming in Cleopatra.

Cleopatra is directed by Kari Skogland with a screenplay from Laeta Kalogridis. When she was asked how it would be different from the Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton film, she said that the focus was shifting from sexuality to accomplishment.

She said, “I can’t reveal a lot, but I can tell you that we’re going to celebrate the Cleopatra story. We’re going to show not just how sexy and appealing she was, but how strategic and smart, and how much impact she had and still has on the world we’re living in today.

“I’ve watched all the Cleopatra movies throughout history, but I feel like we’re telling the story the world needs to hear now.”

In addition, Gadot revealed that the third Wonder Woman film is still happening. She said, “We’re developing the script right now. We’ll probably start in a year and a half or so.”

Back when it was released at the end of 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 easily conquered the holiday weekend, exceeding box office projections as the top post-pandemic domestic opening weekend for any feature film this year, with $16.7 million in box office.

From director Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot in the title role, Wonder Woman 1984 fast forwards to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her riding lightning across the sky, donning wings of gold, and chasing a dream while in pursuit of two new formidable foes: Max Lord and the Cheetah.

In Wonder Woman 1984, the fate of the world is once more on the line, and only Wonder Woman can save it. This new chapter in the Wonder Woman story finds Diana Prince living quietly among mortals in the vibrant, sleek 1980s – an era of excess driven by the pursuit of having it all.

Though she’s come into her full powers, she maintains a low profile, curating ancient artifacts and only performing her superheroic acts incognito. But now, Diana will have to step directly into the spotlight and muster all her wisdom, strength and courage in order to save mankind from a world of its own making.

The film also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as the Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.
