Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in New Wonder Woman 1984 Photos

In addition to the two previously-released covers for the magazine’s June issue (see below), Empire has now also revealed two more Wonder Woman 1984 photos featuring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.

“The first movie was a coming of age, it was Diana becoming Wonder Woman,” Gadot told the magazine. “She was very naive and she didn’t understand the complexities of life. A fish out of water.”

She added: “In this movie, that’s not the case whatsoever. Diana has evolved. She’s much more mature and very wise. However, she’s very lonely. She lost all of her team members and she’s guarded. And then something crazy happens.”

That something is the return of Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor. “Chris was an integral part of the movie, and of its success,” says Gadot. “And because he and I and Patty really enjoyed working together, we all wanted to have him back. And Patty and [co-writer] Geoff Johns found the best way that serves the narrative to bring Steve back.”

Wonder Woman 1984, scheduled to open in theaters on August 14, fast forwards to the 1980s and will have Wonder Woman facing all-new foes. She is now working at the Natural History Museum in Washington, D.C., and lives quietly, still mourning the loves she’s left behind.

Director Patty JenkinsWonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot in the title role, alongside Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Super-Villain The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.

Jenkins directs from a screenplay she wrote with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, from a story by Jenkins and Johns. The film is based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Stephen Jones are producing the film. Rebecca Steel Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Marianne Jenkins, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo and Wesley Coller are the executive producers.
