Francis Lawrence is set to direct Netflix’s live-action adaptation of BioShock from a script by Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049, Death on the Nile), the streaming service announced today.
Netflix is partnering with 2K and Take-Two Interactive to produce a live-action film adaptation of the renowned video game franchise.
Francis Lawrence made his directing debut with Constantine in 2005 and followed it up with I Am Legend in 2007 and Water for Elephants in 2011. He then turned his attention to The Hunger Games franchise and helmed Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part 1, and Mockinjay Part 2.
Francis Lawrence reteamed with Jennifer Lawrence in 2018 for Red Sparrow. His next film is Slumberland, which is coming to Netflix on November 18. He is now filming The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which opens in theaters on November 17, 2023.

The next installment of the video game franchise is currently in development by Cloud Chamber.
Not much is known yet about the upcoming game, though Cloud Chamber says the “team consists of veteran BioShock developers and expert game makers from other mind-blowing titles.”
They added that “they’re going to create worlds that you’ll want to experience.”
Producing the BioShock movie are Roy Lee for Vertigo Entertainment, Francis Lawrence for about:blank, and 2K, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.
The executive producers are Cameron MacConomy for about:blank and Strauss Zelnick for Take-Two Interactive.
