Focus Features to Produce and Distribute Jon Stewart’s Irresistible

-

Focus Features announced today it will partner with Plan B Entertainment to produce and distribute Jon Stewart’s Irresistible, a new comedy set amidst a political campaign written and directed by Stewart. Academy Award winner Chris Cooper joins the previously-announced cast led by Academy Award nominee Steve Carell and Rose Byrne. Stewart will also produce alongside Plan B Entertainment (Vice, Moonlight, 12 Years a Slave).

“In the age of fake news, Jon Stewart continues to be the real deal. He’s been making us laugh at the bipartisan commitment to bending the truth for years, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with him and Plan B as Jon brings his signature wit to the big screen with the incredibly versatile talents of Steve, Rose, and Chris,” said Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski.

Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide. Focus’ Josh McLaughlin, president of production, will oversee the film.

Stewart has won 22 Emmy Awards as the host, writer and executive producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and as a creator and executive producer on The Colbert Report. He is currently an executive producer on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He is a two-time host of the Academy Awards and a New York Times best-selling author who has written America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction and Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race.

Oscar and Golden Globe® winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation) will next be seen co-starring opposite fellow Oscar winner Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys in Marielle Heller’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. Cooper recently completed production on Greta Gerwig’s Little Women opposite Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan.
