Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon in Talks to Star in Ghostbusters

Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT Chapter Two) and Carrie Coon (Widows, The Sinner) are in talks to star in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Ghostbusters movie, according to Variety.

Directed by Jason Reitman, the story will reportedly focus on a single mom and her family, with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard her son. EW adds that the family has mysterious ties back to the original 1984 movie.

The trade says that “Reitman may have been weary about using anyone from the ‘Stranger Things’ cast, given some of the similarities between the two properties, but both he and the executives were blown away by Wolfhard’s audition.”

The new Ghostbusters movie, opening in theaters on July 10, 2020, is set in the world of the original two films, which were directed by Jason’s father, Ivan Reitman. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day,” said Jason Reitman previously.

Filming is expected to start in a few months. Reitman co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan.
