Event Horizon Series in Development at Amazon and Paramount TV

Amazon and Paramount Television are developing an Event Horizon series based on the 1997 sci-fi horror movie directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, according to Variety.

Adam Wingard is set to executive produce and direct the Event Horizon series. Wingard recently directed Godzilla vs. Kong, which opens in theaters on March 13, 2020. His credits also include Blair WitchDeath Note, The Guest, and You’re Next.

Wingard will executive produce along with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Jeremy Platt. Gordon and Levin both produced the film.

The original film (buy here), written by Philip Eisner, stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T. Jones, and Jason Isaacs.

Set in the year 2047, Event Horizon follows a crew of astronauts sent on a rescue mission after a missing spaceship, the Event Horizon, spontaneously appears in orbit around Neptune. Searching the ship for signs of life, the rescue crew learns that the Event Horizon was a test bed for an experimental engine that opened a rift in the space time continuum and left our universe entirely, allowing a hostile entity to possess the ship.

The film wasn’t a breakout success at the box office with just $26.6 million (on a $60 million budget), but it has sold very well on home video and has built a cult following over the years.
