With the first film grossing $118.6 million worldwide on a budget of just $9 million, it’s no surprise that Sony Pictures has given the green light to Escape Room 2. The sequel has been scheduled for an April 17, 2020 release. The only other film eyeing that date is the sequel Trolls World Tour.
Adam Robitel (Insidious: The Last Key) is returning to direct Escape Room 2 from a script by Bragi F. Schut. Neal H. Moritz will again produce.
The first movie opened in theaters on January 4, 2019 and earned $56.1 million domestically and $62.5 million internationally. Escape Room is a psychological thriller about six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
The cast includes Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Jay Ellis, Tyler Labine, Nik Dodani, and Yorick van Wageningen.
Escape Room was directed by Adam Robitel from a script by Bragi Schut and Maria Melnik. Neil H. Moritz was the producer and Rebecca Rivo executive produced the film.
