Emma Watson Shares a First Look at Little Women

Emma Watson (Beauty and the BeastHarry Potter films) has shared a first look at Sony Pictures‘ Little Women via her social channels. She wrote: “I could never love anyone as I love my sisters.” – Louisa May Alcott, @LittleWomen ? From left: Meg March, Greta Gerwig (director), Jo March, Amy March, Beth March and Laurie (Theodore Laurence).

Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) is writing and directing the film, which stars Meryl Streep as Aunt March, Saoirse Ronan as Jo March, Timothée Chalamet as Theodore “Laurie” Laurence, Florence Pugh as Amy March, Eliza Scanlen as Beth March, James Norton as John Brooke, Laura Dern as Marmee March, Emma Watson as Meg March, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper, and Abby Quinn.

Little Women will be based on Louisa May Alcott’s 1869 novel, which is officially described as follows:

“Little Women is one of the best loved books of all time. Lovely Meg, talented Jo, frail Beth, spoiled Amy: these are hard lessons of poverty and of growing up in New England during the Civil War. Through their dreams, plays, pranks, letters, illnesses, and courtships, women of all ages have become a part of this remarkable family and have felt the deep sadness when Meg leaves the circle of sisters to be married at the end of Part I. Part II, chronicles Meg’s joys and mishaps as a young wife and mother, Jo’s struggle to become a writer, Beth’s tragedy, and Amy’s artistic pursuits and unexpected romance. Based on Louise May Alcott’s childhood, this lively portrait of nineteenth-century family life possesses a lasting vitality that has endeared it to generations of readers.”

The novel has previously been adapted into various movies and television series, as well as a musical.

Amy Pascal, Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord will produce. Andrea Giannetti will oversee the production for Columbia Pictures. The film is scheduled for a December 25, 2019 release.
