Elton John and Bernie Taupin React to Seeing Rocketman at Cannes

Paramount Pictures‘ Rocketman premiered today to huge applause and a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. Star Taron Egerton was even moved to tears upon seeing the positive reaction. The studio also put Sir Elton John and longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin on video to get their reaction to the movie after seeing it for the first time today.

You can watch the video below, and underneath you can also check out Elton John and Taron Egerton singing “Rocket Man” at the Rocketman Cannes Gala Party.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher (Eddie the Eagle), the May 31 release is an epic musical fantasy about the human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years. The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John. This inspirational story – set to Elton John’s most beloved songs and performed by star Taron Egerton – tells the universally-relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture.

Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as Elton’s first manager, John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.

Written by Lee Hall, the film was produced by Matthew Vaughn, David Furnish, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. The executive producers are Elton John, Steve Hamilton Shaw, Michael Gracey, Claudia Schiffer, and Brian Oliver.

Elton John appeared alongside Taron Egerton in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Egerton recently starred in Robin Hood.
