Eiza González (Baby Driver) has joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ Hobbs and Shaw, according to Variety. The trade says the role was a last-minute addition and scheduling had to be worked out with Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong, in which the actress also stars.
David Leitch (Deadpool 2) is directing the Fast & Furious spin-off. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will face Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mountain Between Us, Luther) with the help of The Crown star Vanessa Kirby, who will play an agent and the sister of Statham’s Shaw. It is not known who Gonzalez will be playing in the film.
Chris Morgan wrote the script for the action film. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are producing alongside Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz, Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, and eponymous’ Chris Morgan. Kelly McCormick, Steve Chasman, Amanda Lewis, Ainsley Davies and Ethan Smith are executive producing.
The last Fast & Furious movie featuring both Hobbs and Shaw, The Fate of the Furious, earned $1.236 billion at the worldwide box office last year. Hobbs and Shaw is scheduled for an August 2, 2019 release.
Eiza González has a big slate of films in the works in addition to Godzilla vs. Kong. She’ll also appear in the upcoming Welcome to Marwen, Alita: Battle Angel, Paradise Hills, Bloodshot, and Kung Fury.
