Dune Release Date Moved to Dec. 2020, Elvis Presley Pic Dated

Warner Bros. Pictures announced late Friday that the studio has moved the Dune release date and scheduled a release date for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley movie.

From Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, the new Dune movie has been moved from November 20, 2020 to December 18, 2020. Also scheduled for the new Dune release date are Coming 2 AmericaUncharted and West Side Story, and just five days later we’re getting The Croods 2 and Cruella. So that’s quite some competition that Dune will be facing. Warner Bros. isn’t letting go of that November 20, 2020 date though, as an untitled event film is still scheduled.

Dune is being directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). The big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible films), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars films), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Milk, Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgård (the Mamma Mia! films, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Dave Bautista (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Endgame), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming), David Dastmalchian (the Ant-Man movies), Stephen Henderson (Fences, Lady Bird), Chang Chen (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Grandmaster), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Assassin’s Creed), with Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall).

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Warner Bros. has set the untitled Elvis Presley feature film for October 1, 2021. No other film is scheduled for that date yet.

In the movie, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge!) will explore the life and music of Presley (played by Austin Butler), through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker, played in the film by two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Philadelphia). The story will delve into their complex dynamic spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.
