Emmy Award nominee Vincent D’Onofrio (Godfather of Harlem, Marvel’s Daredevil, Jurassic World), Jon Bernthal (Ford v Ferrari, Baby Driver, Marvel’s The Punisher), Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Richard Thomas (Billions, Wonder Boys), Linda Emond (Lodge 49, Gemini Man), and Emma Nelson (Where’d You Go, Bernadette) have joined Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock in the upcoming untitled Netflix project to be directed by Nora Fingscheidt (Systemsprenger / System Crasher).
The join the previously-announced Academy, Tony, and Emmy Award winner Viola Davis (Fences, The Help, How to Get Away with Murder, Suicide Squad, Widows), Rob Morgan (Just Mercy, Mudbound) and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale).
The movie was written by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible films, The Usual Suspects) and adapted from the BAFTA Award-nominated, three-part British mini-series Unforgiven (not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood film).
The Unforgiven adaptation is described as follows: “Released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime, Ruth Slater (Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.”
The untitled project is produced by Academy Award winner Graham King for GK Films, Bullock for Fortis Films, and Veronica Ferres for Construction Film. The executive producers are Nan Morales, Nicola Shindler, Sally Wainwright, and Colin Vaines.
Bullock’s recent feature, Bird Box, is one of Netflix’s top performing films and was watched by over 80 million accounts in its first four weeks.
Fingscheidt made her directorial debut with Systemsprenger, which premiered at the 2019 International Berlin Film Festival where she won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Award for new perspectives in cinema. Since then, the film has won 24 international awards and was selected to represent Germany at the 2020 Academy Awards.
Principal photography is currently underway in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
