David Slade to Direct Psychological Thriller Come Closer

Anton announced today that its upcoming thriller Come Closer will be directed by David Slade (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Hard Candy, American Gods). The film, which is based on the novel of the same name, is penned by the novel’s author Sara Gran (Berlin Station, Southland).

Come Closer, which follows a young architect who may be the victim of demonic possession or simply may be losing her mind, will be produced by Academy Award nominee Michael London (Sideways, The Visitor, Milk) and Sara Gran.

Anton is fully financing, executive producing and handling worldwide sales. Recently appointed as EVP of Acquisitions & Co-Productions, John Zois, negotiated the deal and will oversee the project for Anton.

Slade most recently directed the revolutionary choose-your-own-adventure movie Black Mirror: Bandersnatch for Netflix. Slade is best known for his films Hard Candy (starring Patrick Wilson, Ellen Page and Sandra Oh), 30 Days of Night (starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George) and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, as well as the television shows American Gods and Hannibal.

Gran has written for the TV shows Berlin Station and Southland and written pilots for HBO, TNT and Cinemax, among others. She’s also published six novels, most recently The Infinite Blacktop. Her novel Come Closer was published in 2003 to overwhelming critical favor.

London most recently produced Farming, starring Kate Beckinsale and directed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, which premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. He received a Golden Globe award for Best Picture in the comedy category for Alexander Payne’s Sideways and is currently working on Showtime’s Golden Globe-nominated SMILF, SYFY’s The Magicians, and FX’s Snowfall.

Anton’s slate includes Ric Roman Waugh’s Greenland, starring Gerard Butler; David Bruckner’s The Night House, starring Rebecca Hall; and Chase Palmer’s Naked Singularity, starring John Boyega.
