Netflix has set David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, The Judge) to direct Eurovision. Will Ferrell is attached to star and write with Andrew Steele for Netflix.
Eurovision is a comedy set around the “The Eurovision Song Contest,” the longest-running annual international TV song competition.
The 63rd edition of the competition had its finale in Lisbon last year. The winner was Israel with the song “Toy,” performed by Netta. The first contest was held in Switzerland in 1956 with seven West European nations participating. This year 43 countries competed for the prize. The show is now a global phenomenon with fans all over the world.
Former contestants ABBA (winner in 1974 for Sweden) and Céline Dion (winner in 1988 for Switzerland) launched successful worldwide careers after their wins at the contest.
The producers are Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy from Gary Sanchez Productions. Adam McKay is executive producing.
