Danny Boyle Will No Longer Direct James Bond 25

Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences, Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Steve Jobs) has decided to no longer direct James Bond 25.

The 25th James Bond movie was scheduled to start filming on December 3 for an October 25, 2019 release in the U.K. and November 8, 2019 release in the U.S. Whether it will still start shooting in December is unknown. MGM will release the film theatrically in the U.S. through its new joint venture with Annapurna Pictures, and Universal Pictures will release James Bond 25 internationally.

Daniel Craig will return as 007 in the film, which has an original screenplay by Academy Award nominee John Hodge (Trainspotting). With Boyle dropping out, one might expect a new screenwriter to be named soon as well.

Craig has played the secret agent in four films so far, including Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and SPECTRE (2015). He also made a guest appearance as Bond in the Danny Boyle-directed opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, alongside Queen Elizabeth II.
