The live-action/computer-animated fantasy comedy is directed by Walt Becker from a script by Jay Scherick, David Ronn, and Blaise Hemingway. The screen story was written by Justin Malen and Ellen Rapaport.

The movie is based on Norman Bridwell’s series of children’s books of the same name (buy at Amazon). It stars Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, Russell Wong and John Cleese.

In the movie, when middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment.

While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Based on the beloved Scholastic book character, Clifford will teach the world how to love big!

Along the way, Clifford affects the lives of everyone around him and teaches Emily and her uncle the true meaning of acceptance and unconditional love.

Clifford the Big Red Dog started principal photography on June 10, 2019 in New York City and production wrapped on August 23, 2019.

Becker’s previous directing credits include Buying the Cow (2000), Van Wilder (2002), Wild Hogs (2007), Old Dogs (2009), and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (2015).

The movie was co-financed by Paramount and Entertainment One (eOne). eOne will distribute in Canada and the UK and Paramount will distribute in other territories, including the U.S.
