Christopher Nolan’s Tenet Pushed Back to August

-

Warner Bros. Pictures has pushed back Christopher Nolan’s Tenet again from July 31st to August 12, 2020. The film was initially going to be released in theaters on July 17 before it was moved to July 31.

“Warner Bros. is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time,” said the studio. “In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”

The 10th anniversary rerelease of Nolan’s Inception (check price at Amazon) has also been moved back from July 17 to July 31. The re-release will include a never-before-seen sneak peek at the Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, as well as the Warner Bros.’s other upcoming movies.

The two moves come as New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that movie theaters in the state would not be included in the fourth phase of reopening. Some states that have started reopening quickly have also seen troubling increases in infection rates, such as Arizona, Florida and Texas.

The only big new blockbuster left in July is now Disney’s Mulan, which is still scheduled to open in theaters on July 24. There’s been some reports in recent days that Disney may move that date back as well, however. On Monday, Disney pushed back the opening of Disneyland, which had been scheduled for July 17.

John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle Tenet. Armed with only one word — Tenet — and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.

The international ensemble cast is led by John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) and also stars Robert Pattinson (Twilight films, upcoming The Batman), Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. Christopher Nolan directed from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX and 70mm film to bring the story to the screen.

The film is being produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas. Thomas Hayslip is serving as executive producer. The movie reportedly carries a budget of $205 million, making it Nolan’s most expensive original film.

Nolan’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland, and visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson.

The Warner Bros. released is a Syncopy Production and the score is being composed by Ludwig Göransson.
