Apple TV+ has released the official Cherry trailer, which previews the new movie from directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Cherry will premiere in select theaters on February 26 and globally on Apple TV+ March 12.
Cherry follows the wild journey of a disenfranchised young man from Ohio who meets the love of his life, only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions and challenging life circumstances.
Inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name, Cherry features Tom Holland in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo).
When Cherry returns home a war hero, he battles the demons of undiagnosed PTSD and spirals into drug addiction, surrounding himself with a menagerie of depraved misfits.
Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way.
Brought to the screen in bold, gritty fashion by visionary directors Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers movies), Cherry is a darkly humorous, unflinching coming-of-age story of a man on a universal quest for purpose and human connection.
The movie also stars Jack Reynor, Michael Rispoli, Jeff Wahlberg, Forrest Goodluck, and Michael Gandolfini.
The film was written by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg. The producers include Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Jonathan Gray, Matthew Rhodes, Jake Aust, and Chris Castaldi.
The executive producers are Kristy Grisham, Judd Payne, Wang Zhongjun, Wang Zhonglei, Edward Cheng, Patrick Newall, Angela Russo-Otstot, Todd Makurath, Dan Kaplow, Nico Walker, and Matthew Johnson.
Nico Walker’s book is officially described as follows: “It’s 2003, and as a college freshman in Cleveland, our narrator is adrift until he meets Emily. The two of them experience an instant, life-changing connection. But when he almost loses her, he chooses to make an indelible statement: he joins the Army. The outcome will not be good for either of them.
As a medic in Iraq, he is unprepared for the realties that await him. He and his fellow soldiers huff computer duster, abuse painkillers, and watch porn. Many of them die. When he comes home, his PTSD is profound.
As the opioid crisis sweeps through the Midwest, it drags both him and Emily along with it. As their addictions worsen, and with their money drying up, he stumbles onto what seems like the only possible solution—robbing banks.”
