Charlie’s Angels Moves Into Wonder Woman 1984’s Old Spot

Warner Bros. Pictures surprised moviegoers yesterday with the announcement that it was pushing back Wonder Woman 1984 seven months from November 1, 2019 to June 5, 2020. It didn’t take long for another studio to snatch up the November 1, 2019 date, however, as Sony Pictures has now moved Charlie’s Angels from September 27, 2019 to that date.

Elizabeth Banks is directing the new Charlie’s Angels, which will feature Kristen StewartNaomi Scott (upcoming AladdinPower Rangers), and newcomer Ella Balinska as the angels. Sir Patrick Stewart, Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Jonathan Tucker and Luis Gerardo Méndez are also on board. In addition to directing and playing Bosley, Elizabeth Banks is producing and co-wrote the film with Jay Basu as well.

The new film takes the detective agency premise of the original television series and turn-of-the century movies and takes it global, with the Townsend Agency now a worldwide security and intelligence service that has teams around the planet. The movie will focus on one of those teams and the next generation of Angels.

Charlie’s Angels filming started in September. Banks is producing with Max Handelman through their Brownstone Productions, along with Doug Belgrad and Elizabeth Cantillon.

Charlie’s Angels was first a TV series from 1976 to 1981 that starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. Two movies were also made in 2000 and 2003 starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.
