Lionsgate has set the Chaos Walking release date for January 22, 2021 and the movie has that day to itself for now. Filming on the big screen adaptation of the Patrick Ness book series began all the way back in August of 2017 and wrapped that year in November. Reshoots reportedly took place in early 2019 as well.
In Chaos Walking, two unlikely companions [Tom Holland & Daisy Ridley] embark on a perilous adventure through the badlands of an unexplored planet as they try to escape a dangerous and disorienting reality; where all inner thoughts are seen and heard by everyone.
The film also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter, Ray McKinnon, and David Oyelowo.
Chaos Walking is directed by Doug Liman, written for the screen by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford, based upon the book The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, and produced by Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff.
The first book in the trilogy is officially described as follows:
Imagine you’re the only boy in a town of men. And you can hear everything they think. And they can hear everything you think. Imagine you don’t fit in with their plans…
Todd Hewitt is just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man. But his town has been keeping secrets from him. Secrets that are going to force him to run…
This unflinching novel about fear, flight and the terrifying path of self-discovery won both the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and the Booktrust Teenage Prize.
