Filming on the big screen adaptation of the Patrick Ness book series began back in August of 2017 and wrapped that year in November. Reshoots reportedly took place in early 2019 as well.

In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the Noise” – a force that puts all their thoughts on display.

In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet’s dark secrets.

The sci-fi action adventure also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter, and David Oyelowo. The movie is rated PG-13 for violence and language.

Chaos Walking is directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) from a script by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford. The movie is produced by Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff, and Alison Winter.

The movie is based upon the book The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. The first book in the trilogy is officially described as follows…

Imagine you’re the only boy in a town of men. And you can hear everything they think. And they can hear everything you think. Imagine you don’t fit in with their plans…

Todd Hewitt is just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man. But his town has been keeping secrets from him. Secrets that are going to force him to run…

This unflinching novel about fear, flight and the terrifying path of self-discovery won both the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and the Booktrust Teenage Prize.

Also features the short story, The New World. Set before the events of The Knife of Never Letting Go, it is the story of Viola’s dramatic journey to the New World.

The Chaos Walking book series also includes The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men.
