Blackport Clip Brings Intense Confrontation to Topic's Crime Drama

Centering on an ambitious woman determined to own the seas and her community, Blackport was created, written, directed by and stars the trio of Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir, Gísli Örn Garðarsson, and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson.

The series (whose original title is “Verbúðin”) debuted in its native Iceland on December 26, 2021, and has subsequently been released in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and most recently in Australia last month.

The Topic release marks Blackport‘s North American debut. It has won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival and the Serielizado Festival.

Here is the official synopsis, which clearly is meant to draw a comparison to the Paramount Network phenomenon Yellowstone with its tagline “Montana has its cattle. Iceland has its fish.”

‘Set in the 1980s in a small Icelandic fishing village, the story follows a married couple, Harpa and Grimur, who along with their childhood friends, build a small fishing empire thanks to the introduction of the fishing quota system in the country.

“But the struggle for power deeply corrupts the couple, resulting in a feud of jealousy, greed, and betrayal.”

Topic is the criminally-good streaming service from First Look Entertainment for thrillers, mysteries, dramas and documentaries from around the world, serving viewers who crave entertainment beyond the mainstream.

Whether it’s a Nordic-noir crime thriller (The Killing), an Italian supernatural political drama (The Miracle) or a haunting true crime docu-series from the UK (The Missing Children), Topic expands your view of the world.
