Filming for the movie, from Warner Bros. Pictures’ New Line Cinema, is wrapping up in Atlanta, Georgia. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who is reteaming with Johnson after helming Jungle Cruise, which is opening on a similar date one year earlier on July 30, 2021.

Here are the new photos and we’ll let Dwayne Johnson do the talking!

“This image of Black Adam from behind gives you a tactile sense of the absolute massive scale and size of our movie. And appropriate destruction. You see, superheroes have a code of justice and don’t kill the bad guys. But, Black Adam does.

“The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is changing. The antihero. The man in black. The protector of the people.”

“Rage. In our final week of shooting BLACK ADAM our director, Jaume Collet Serra designed very cutting edge and cool shots. This advanced robot arm called a BOLT is the fastest in the world with a high speed PHANTOM camera that shoots me at an insane 960 frames per second (normally movies are shot at 24 frames per second).

“If you know the comic mythology of BLACK ADAM, then you know/ His rage comes from pain. His pain comes from the loss of his wife and children. He is now the most unstoppable force in the DC Universe or ANY endgame universe.

“A real privilege to bring Black Adam to life with cutting edge technology with my director Jaume Collet-Serra and our Director of Photography, Lawrence Sher and their hungry and brilliant team of filmmakers and storytellers. Do not go gentle…”

“Minutes away from shooting a very cool cutting edge scene for our movie, BLACK ADAM. My skilled make up artist, Bjoern Rehbein is applying tiny white tracking dots to very specific areas of my body (legs included) so our Visual Effects team track and compute my muscle fibers intensely activating and moving while BLACK ADAM is raging to seek & destroy his enemies.

“This is the final week of production and the hard work with my training, diet and conditioning has been relentless – hardest of my career because I’ve had to maintain this physical look for months and had to peak in my final week – but our collective goal is to raise the bar with BLACK ADAM.

“To deliver the antihero you’ve been waiting for and you deserve. Final week of production.”

“Back to work. This is our final week of production for the filming of BLACK ADAM. I can’t thank you guys enough for all your support. Truly, I’m grateful. From deep in my bones.

“Almost two years of hard core, intense training, diet, character prep and execution. You’ve been right there rockin’ with me all this time. And now it’s my turn and I hope to deliver the definitive antihero you deserve.”

The film’s script was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Adam Sztykiel wrote an earlier draft.

In addition to Dwayne Johnson, the cast includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson, aka Doctor Fate, a founding member of the Justice Society of America.

Also starring in the film are Sarah Shahi and Marwan Kenzari. While Kenzari’s character is unknown, Shahi plays a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq.

The movie follows the success of Shazam!, which brought in $365.9 million worldwide. Shazam! was directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Djimon Hounsou.

Johnson’s antihero was originally supposed to have debuted in Shazam!, but it wasn’t working with them having to tell the origin stories of both Shazam! and Black Adam. Johnson has also said the upcoming movie is an origin story and that the title character is a ruthless keeper of justice.

Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo will produce along with Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions. Scott Sheldon will oversee for FlynnPicturesCo.

The 2022 film is based on the DC Comics character created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck. The character first appeared in the first issues of Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family in December 1945, and began to appear in the Shazam! comics in the 1970s.

Below, you can watch a teaser for the movie which explains the origin story of the character and features concept art.
