Austin Butler and Callum Turner to Star in Masters of the Air

Apple Studios today revealed that Austin Butler (Untitled Elvis Presley Project, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Iceman Cometh) and BAFTA Award-nominee Callum Turner (The Capture, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Emma. and upcoming Last Letter From Your Lover) will play lead roles in Masters of the Air.

Masters of the Air is the sweeping international drama that reunites Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman following their Emmy Award-winning collaborations on Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

The limited series, produced by Playtone and Amblin Television will join the expanding, Emmy Award-winning slate on Apple TV+.

Austin Butler will star as Major Gale Cleven and Callum Turner will star as Major John Egan in the series.

Based on the book by Donald L. Miller (buy at Amazon), Masters of the Air follows the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. The series is written by Band of Brothers alumnus John Orloff and Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Graham Yost, who are also co-executive producing.

Produced by Apple Studios, Steven Spielberg will executive produce through Amblin Television, alongside executive producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone.

Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and Playtone’s Steven Shareshian serve as co-executive producers. Alex Maggioni will oversee the day-to-day development of the project for Amblin, alongside Spielberg, Frank and Falvey.

Masters of the Air will premiere globally on Apple TV+ where it will join the acclaimed film Greyhound starring and written by Hanks, produced by Goetzman and hailing from Playtone; and, Amazing Stories from Amblin Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg.

The series joins Apple TV+’s lineup from the world’s greatest storytellers, which has received 250 awards nominations and 70 wins in just over a year, including the Golden Globe-nominated and AFI honored Ted Lasso, SAG, Critics Choice and Emmy Award-winning The Morning Show, and more.

Upcoming series developed and produced by Apple Studios include The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, executive produced by and starring Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson; WeCrashed, starring Academy Award-winners Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto; and Lessons in Chemistry, starring and executive produced by Academy Award winner Brie Larson.

Also coming are a drama series from Team Downey and Adam Perlman; and High Desert, a new comedy series starring Patricia Arquette, who will also executive produce alongside director Ben Stiller.

Upcoming feature films hailing from Apple Studios include Emancipation, from director Antoine Fuqua, and starring and produced by Academy Award nominee Will Smith; and Kitbag, from director Ridley Scott and starring Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix.

Movies on the way also include Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro; Snow Blind, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Gustav Möller; and Swan Song, starring Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris.
