Netflix today released some first-look pics from Army of Thieves, which is a prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. You can check out the new photos below.
In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
Army of Thieves is directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, who will reprise the role of Dieter. The script comes to us from Shay Hatten, with a story by Hatten and Zack Snyder.
The film is produced by Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, Dan Maag and Matthias Schweighöfer. The cast includes Schweighöfer, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, Jonathan Cohen and Noémie Nakai.
Filming on Army of Thieves began in October 2020 and finished in December 2020.The new film is part of a larger Army of the Dead universe that includes the upcoming anime series entitled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, also written by Hattan.
The anime series chronicles the origin story of Scott (Dave Bautista) and his rescue crew during the initial fall of Vegas as they confront the mysterious source of the zombie outbreak. Zack Snyder will direct two episodes of the anime series.
Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Netflix Original Anime Series Trese) will be showrunning as well as directing two episodes of the series. The series will be executive produced by Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Wesley Coller from The Stone Quarry alongside Jay Olivia and Shay Hatten.
In Army of the Dead, following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. The film was rated R for strong bloody violence, gore and language throughout, some sexual content and brief nudity/graphic nudity.
The movie’s screenplay was written by Snyder, Shay Hatten and Joby Harold from a story by Snyder. The producers are Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Zack Snyder.
Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Garret Dillahunt.
The cast also includes Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy. The movie was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico and a casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In addition, Netflix has announced Zack Snyder’s next film, a sci-fi adventure film titled Rebel Moon. Snyder wrote the script with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
This marks the fifth collaboration with Netflix and Shay Hatten, who previously wrote Netflix’s hit film Army of the Dead with Zack Snyder, and three upcoming films: The German-language prequel Army of Thieves, starring and directed by Matthias Schweighöfer; the anime spin-off Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, and the vampire hunting film Day Shift, starring Jamie Foxx.
In Rebel Moon, when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.
The producers are Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Zack Snyder for The Stone Quarry; and Eric Newman for Grand Electric. Sarah Bowen is the executive producer for Grand Electric.
